Grant funds pathways to success
The University of Southern Maine's (USM's) commitment to student success just got a boost from a federal TRiO Student Support Services grant. Over $2 million will be shared by USM and Southern Maine Community College. The schools will work together to ensure that low-income, disabled, and first-generation college students can graduate and succeed. Read more.
 
 
 
 
 
USM offers Juhi Khatoon a chance at college
For Juhi Khatoon, the daughter of a human trafficking victim in India, college was unimaginable — until now. Thanks to a collaboration between USM, UMaine Law, and CIEE, a cultural exchange nonprofit, Juhi will soon have her chance to pursue her degree and a better future. Read more.

On the air: Music therapist Kate Beever '07
Music uses "more of your brain," says music therapist Kate Beever '07. Kate was a guest on a recent MPBN Maine Calling program focusing on creative arts therapy. A School of Music graduate, she has partnered with USM for the past two years to present the university's annual Creative Health Conference. Learn more.

Research on racial bias earns national award
A team of students, faculty, and staff at USM's Muskie School of Public Service earned national recognition for its report on racial bias in Maine's juvenile justice system. The report, published by the Maine Statistical Analysis Center at the Muskie School, was one of just four national award winners. Read more.
