A new fast-track to law degree
A pioneering partnership between the University of Southern Maine (USM) and Maine Law will enable students to earn both a bachelor's and a law degree in just six years. The new fast-track program allows qualified students to apply to Maine Law in their junior year and enroll the next year, saving time and tuition. Engineering a turbo jet engine
Building a jet engine was Ryker Turcotte's idea. He grew up fascinated with aviation and chose to major in mechanical engineering at USM. This month, he and fellow senior Dave Stevens unveiled their final project: the first turbo jet engine designed and built by USM students. It may be the first, but it won't be the last! Read more.

Two years after its finale, Breaking Bad continues to capture the attention of fans, critics, and even history museums. Good news for media studies professor David Pierson. As author of an essay collection on the acclaimed TV series, he's a go-to expert on the topic and was recently quoted in Smithsonian magazine. Read more.

The legacy of "Mr. and Mrs. USM"
Melissa and Dr. Richard "Doc" Costello met at USM, taught at USM, and enriched the lives of countless students at USM. Now, thanks to their $1.65 million bequest — the largest ever in the university's history — Melissa and Doc will continue to touch the lives of numerous students for generations to come. Read more.
