Attention for historic Columbus letter
 
USM's Osher Map Library is home to a rare copy of a 15th century letter describing Christopher Columbus' journey to America. Students, faculty, and the community are able to view and study the letter in person or digitally.

Students in USM's Environmental Science and Policy program visited Portland's Capisic Brook with 30 Longfellow Elementary School fifth graders to teach them about wetland ecology as part of an ongoing partnership between the two schools.

Students tackle gender-bending opera
 
USM's School of Music performed Monteverdi's full-length baroque opera, The Coronation of Poppea, on April 30 at Corthell Concert Hall on the Gorham campus. This gender-bending story is distinct in featuring two countertenors, or men who sing in the alto range.
