Eight University of Southern Maine (USM) students and alumni were chosen to sing backup vocals for Broadway and TV star Kristin Chenoweth — the original "Glinda" in the hit musical Wicked. They performed "Hard Times" and "I Was Here" to a packed house at Merrill Auditorium in Portland on Oct. 1st.

In the Ci2 (Creative Intelligence + Innovation + Collaboration) lab, our students work in virtual and augmented reality projects, such as collaborating with Maine Medical Center's neurosurgeons to develop virtual surgery practice modules.

Paint more. Worry less.
 
That was the lesson Native American artist, educator, writer, and curator George Longfish shared at the Oct. 6th opening of his exhibition "Indian on Indian" at USM's Art Gallery. The exhibition merges Native American images with pop iconography, text, and vibrant color.

  Patricia Thompson Leavitt  
Honors for service
 
Patricia Thompson Leavitt, assistant professor in the School of Nursing, was awarded the 2016 Mary Cushman M.D. Award for Humanitarian Service. She was recognized for her work as a teacher and as the volunteer executive director of a free rural clinic providing primary care, dental care, and more to the underserved.
