Alumnae work to save an industry

| Maine's soft-shell clam industry is being ravaged by the European green crab, an invasive species that feeds on clam beds. In response, two University of Southern Maine (USM) alumnae have developed a commercial green crab fishery with the goal of removing the species from the environment and developing a culinary market for them.

New dean brings innovative mentoring to STEM

| Jeremy Qualls, the new dean of the College of Science, Technology, and Health, believes that it's the human connection in education that has a significant impact on the trajectory of a student. He plans to create a collaborative workspace to establish a culture of belonging and encourage mentoring relationships between faculty and students to build a stronger STEM workforce of tomorrow.
