Meet USM's new president
The University of Southern Maine (USM) community is excited to welcome Dr. Harvey Kesselman, Ed.D., as our 13th president. Dr. Kesselman comes to us from Stockton University in New Jersey, where he served most recently as Dean and Professor of Education. Honoring Maine's fallen heroes
USM students, faculty, and staff teamed up with the Summit Project to honor Maine veterans who died in Iraq and Afghanistan. Marching 6.5 miles through Portland, they carried stones engraved with the name of a fallen Maine veteran, including one for USM's own Army SPC Christopher Gelineau, a former student. Read more.

Six USM writers in new anthology, Dumped
Works by students, faculty, and alumnae of USM's Stonecoast MFA in Creative Writing program are included in Dumped: Stories of Women Unfriending Women. The collection, edited by Nina Gaby, explores the "fragile, sometimes humorous" nature of lost friendship. Read more.

Muskie School study paves way for grant
In 2009, students in the USM Muskie School of Public Service studied Portland's up-and-coming East Bayside neighborhood and made recommendations for improvements. Their work led to a $200,000 EPA grant recently awarded to Greater Portland Council of Governments to plan the neighborhood's future. Read more.
