135th Commencement Ceremony
The University of Southern Maine (USM) commencement speaker Richard Blanco had a simple message for the Class of 2015: "Never stop learning." Blanco, the nation's youngest Presidential inaugural poet, shared the stage with student speaker Matthew Araujo, who urged graduates to view their diplomas as "a passport that will unlock a door that will take us to new places." Raising Money and Awareness for Nepal
Graduate students from Nepal are working with the Office of International Programs to help earthquake recovery efforts. The group Prayers for Nepal is raising funds for Himalayan Healthcare, focusing on hard-hit rural areas. They also created a Tibetan Prayer Flag, signed by USM students, that was sent to Nepal. Policy Scholars Tackle Real-Life Maine Issues
Chelsea Malacara, a student in the USM Muskie School of Public Service's 3-2 accelerated degree program, will work on vernal pool conservation during her tenure as a Maine Policy Scholar. Chelsea is one of seven students across the University of Maine System selected to participate in the annual program. Read more.

Cheri Crossman '15: From foster care to MSW
Cheri Crossman's journey to earning her master's degree in social work was anything but easy. Growing up in Maine's foster care system, she struggled.
