In the new Cyber Security Lab at the University of Southern Maine (USM), students are learning how to hack — and how to prevent it. The lab is central to an interdisciplinary curriculum that explores technical, legal, and ethical issues surrounding data protection. Community partnerships like the new Unum Scholars program are integral to USM's mission as Maine's Metropolitan University™. Face To Face With a Noted Irish Filmmaker
Earlier this month, students in Professor Bud McGrath's English class were joined by members of the public for a presentation by internationally renowned filmmaker Maurice Fitzpatrick. Attendees screened Fitzpatrick's groundbreaking documentary on Irish education, The Boys of St. Columb's. Read more on Facebook.

USM Theatre: Comic Connections
The Southern Maine community will have a lot to laugh — and learn — about during this year's Theatre season. William Inge's comedic drama Bus Stop, in which eight strangers are snowbound in a Midwest diner, where they confront life's triumphs and failures amid love and laughter, hits the stage Oct. 31st.
