Collaborating Across Mediums
"Dance USM!" introduced the local community to 25 multi-talented USM students who collaborated on a weekend series of performing arts events. Student dancers, composers, choreographers, painters, costume and set designers — representing a wide range of academic disciplines — produced a dance extravaganza. Read more.

Celebrating Food, Culture, and Diversity
At the 2nd Annual Husky Harvest, the community sampled cuisine from all over the globe, thanks to a partnership between USM's Food and Culture class and English as a Second Language students. The event, hosted by the Tourism and Hospitality Program, included everything from hula dancing to henna painting. Read more.

Visualizing Climate Change
Part of Portland's trail system will be the site of an art installation called The King Tides Trail, a project involving art students working with Professor Jan Piribeck. The temporary trail will raise awareness about the effects of a potential sea-level rise by marking the projected water's edge in downtown Portland. Read more.

Research on Cell Phone Distraction
In a paper published in the journal Social Psychology, Psychology Professor Bill Thornton suggests that the mere presence of your cell phone may distract you from complex tasks — even if you're not actually using it.
