USM Welcomes New President
Next month, Dr. Glenn Cummings will become the 13th president of the University of Southern Maine (USM). He is a long-serving member of the USM faculty and former Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives. An Edible Campus
Thanks to our new Food Forest Garden, you can now take a bite out of our Portland campus! Part of the lawn has been converted to a self-sufficient woodland ecosystem with flowers, herbs, and fruit. Designed by David Homa '06, the garden is both a learning lab and one of many sustainability projects on campus. Read more.

Research Awards Fund Student Projects
From alewives to pendulums to zombies, students and faculty will be collaborating on a diverse range of projects next year as part of USM's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP). Students receive stipends and support for work that will be presented at local, regional, and even national conferences. Read more.

USM Shines at PortFringe Fest
In June, the 4th annual PortFringe Fest in Portland will showcase the talents of many USM Theatre students and alumni, as well as professionals from across the county. With 50 productions over 10 days, the festival involves USM students as performers, crewmembers, organizers, volunteers, and other roles. Read more.

A Spectacular Season for the Huskies
This year's spring sports season will be one to remember, with four Little East Conference (LEC) titles, several national awards, and one national title. There were standout performances in baseball, softball, men's and women's outdoor track and field, and men's tennis, showcasing USM's renowned athletics program. Read more.
